Yves Saint Laurent, often referred to as YSL, is a popular French haute couture design house launched by Yves Henri Donat Mathieu-Saint-Laurent, who served as an assistant to Christian Dior at age 17, and then, as the head of the house of Dior at age 21. Laurent is the first designer to have created tuxedos for women. He is also the first designer to have expanded from couture to ready-to-wear fashion. Laurent is in fact, the man who made chic, upscale fashions available to the mass market. He ventured into the fragrance world in 1964, with the creation of Y for Women, which went on to become a stellar success. His wide range of celebrity-collaborated perfumes launched since then, have carried the YSL legacy of high fashion and luxury and remain trendy even decades after.
